The story

DesignMarch in Reykjavík

Iceland's major annual design week, known as HonnunarMars, running since 2009 under Iceland Design and Architecture. It spans fashion, furniture, architecture, and digital design across more than a hundred exhibits and roughly 150 events citywide, anchored by the DesignTalks conference at Harpa featuring internationally known architects and designers.

DesignMarch, known in Icelandic as HonnunarMars, has run annually since 2009 under Iceland Design and Architecture, the national promotion agency for Icelandic design and architecture, making it considerably younger than Reykjavik Arts Festival but already the country's dominant design-industry event.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

DesignTalks, its flagship international conference at Harpa, has hosted speakers including Bjarke Ingels, Katharine Hamnett, Winy Maas, and IDEO's Paul Bennett, giving the festival genuine international standing beyond a domestic trade fair

02

The mystery stays covered

Running under a dedicated national design-promotion body rather than a city arts department, it functions as much as an industry networking event for roughly 400 participating designers as a public exhibition, spreading its program across established museums and newer innovation-hub venues like Groska alongside traditional cultural institutions
