Reykjavik Pride in Reykjavík

Iceland's largest annual festival, tracing back to small 1993 protest marches by Samtokin '78 and growing into a formal Pride Parade (Gledigangan) first held in August 2000. What began with roughly 12,000 attendees now draws more than 100,000 guests to central Reykjavik each August for concerts, talks, and the parade itself.

Reykjavik Pride traces its roots to 1993, when Samtokin '78, Iceland's national queer organization, staged low-key marches of perhaps forty to sixty people down Laugavegur that functioned more as protests than parades.
