Sammakka Saralamma Jatara in Medaram

A biennial tribal jatara held at Medaram in Telangana, honoring Sammakka and her daughter Saralamma, Koya heroines who resisted Kakatiya rule and are worshipped without fixed idols. Held once every two years on the Magha full moon, it draws pilgrims from across central India and is considered one of Asia's largest tribal gatherings.

Every two years, the Koya tribal community gathers at Medaram, a village inside the Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary in Telangana's Mulugu district, for a jatara honoring Sammakka and her daughter Saralamma, tribal women revered as goddesses after resisting the Kakatiya dynasty's rule in the 13th century.
