The story

International Film Festival of India in Panaji

IFFI is India's oldest film festival, launched in Bombay in 1952 as Asia's first international film festival and made competitive from 1965. Organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, it has been based in Panaji, Goa since 2004, screening World Cinema, Indian Panorama and competition sections each November.

The first International Film Festival of India opened in Bombay on 24 January 1952, inaugurated with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's backing and travelling that year to Delhi, Madras and Calcutta before closing in Bombay, making it the first international film festival held anywhere in Asia.
