Magh Mela Prayagraj in Prayagraj
Every year during the Hindu month of Magh, a tent settlement rises at the Sangam in Prayagraj for an annual bathing festival on a far smaller scale than the Kumbh Mela held at the same site once every twelve years. Its defining participants are Kalpvasis, pilgrims who live on the riverbank for the month observing daily bathing, meditation, and simple meals.
During the Hindu month of Magh, spanning January and February on the lunar calendar, a tent settlement rises annually on the sandy floodplain at the Sangam in Prayagraj, the meeting point of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati, for a festival held at a fraction of the scale of the Kumbh Mela staged at the same location once every twelve years.
