Bali Arts Festival in Denpasar

Pesta Kesenian Bali, or Bali Arts Festival, began in 1979 under Governor Ida Bagus Mantra as a government effort to protect authentic village arts from tourism-driven simplification. Indonesia's longest continuously running arts festival, it runs roughly a month each June and July at Denpasar's Taman Werdhi Budaya Art Centre, built around competitive performances between Bali's regencies.

Pesta Kesenian Bali began in 1979 under Governor Ida Bagus Mantra, launched as a deliberate government response to fears that 1970s tourism growth was flattening authentic Balinese village and temple arts into simplified performances for visitors.
