Malang Flower Carnival in Malang
Malang Flower Carnival, founded in 2010 by Malang State University's Fashion Department, reasserts the city's identity as the City of Flowers through a costume parade with a distinguishing rule: flower ornaments must be built from recycled materials. Held annually, historically each September along or near Ijen Boulevard, it draws roughly five hundred costumed participants and around ten thousand visitors per edition.
Malang State University's Fashion Department, with support from the local arts community and city government, founded Malang Flower Carnival in 2010 to reassert the city's historical identity as the City of Flowers, a nickname predating the modern carnival by decades.
