Semarang Night Carnival in Semarang
Semarang Night Carnival, first held in 2011 as the city's own birthday celebration parade, marks Semarang's founding anniversary on a fixed civic date, distinct from the Ramadan-tied Dugderan tradition held in the same city. The evening parade runs from Balai Kota Semarang through Tugu Muda to Lapangan Pancasila, drawing international delegations, a recent edition included representatives from up to twenty-eight countries, alongside illuminated costumes and floats.
First held in 2011, Semarang Night Carnival was created explicitly as the city's own Hari Ulang Tahun, or birthday, celebration parade, marking Semarang's founding anniversary rather than any point on the Islamic calendar, a fixed civic date that puts it on a fundamentally different footing from the Ramadan-welcoming Dugderan tradition held elsewhere in the same city's festival calendar.
