Indonesia Umbrella Festival in Surakarta/Solo
Fespin, or Festival Payung Indonesia, first held November 28 to 30, 2014 at Taman Balekambang in Solo, preserves and promotes Indonesia's traditional payung umbrella craft through public-participation art installations and performance pieces. Recognized by Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism in 2019 as a top-ten Central Java event, its venue has moved between Balekambang and Pura Mangkunegaran palace grounds across editions.
Known locally as Fespin, short for Festival Payung Indonesia, the Indonesia Umbrella Festival staged its first edition, themed Closer to Umbrella, from November 28 to 30, 2014 at Taman Balekambang in Solo, built specifically to preserve and promote Indonesia's traditional payung, or umbrella, craft-making traditions.
