Sekaten is a week-long ceremonial sequence at Yogyakarta's Keraton marking Maulid Nabi, tracing to the Demak Sultanate era, when a sacred gamelan pair is carried to Masjid Gedhe Kauman's courtyard and played nightly. A separate, longer-running night market, Pasar Malam Perayaan Sekaten, runs alongside it at Alun-Alun Utara, closing with Kundur Gongso before the Grebeg Maulud procession.
