Tehran Short Film Festival in Tehran
Iran's long-running general short-film competition, founded in 1983 and organized by the Iranian Youth Cinema Society, held each October in Tehran. Unlike Isfahan's dedicated children's festival, it screens narrative, documentary, animated, and experimental shorts for a general audience and has held Academy Award qualifying status for its Grand Prix winner since 2020.
Founded in 1983, the Tehran International Short Film Festival predates most other competitions in Iran's post-revolutionary cinema calendar and is organized by the Iranian Youth Cinema Society, a body with its own network of local film houses across the country rather than a single studio or ministry department.
