Babylon International Festival in Babylon/Hillah

A cultural festival staged among the ruins of ancient Babylon since 1985, hosting Iraqi and international music, dance, and theater. Held annually until 2002, it went dark for eighteen years after the 2003 invasion turned the site into a coalition base, then returned in 2021 under civil-society organizers who dropped the event's old Baathist-era slogan.

The Babylon International Festival began in 1985 in Babil governorate, roughly one hundred kilometers south of Baghdad, staging performances of music, dance, and theater against the excavated ruins of the ancient city that gave the country its ancient civilizational anchor.
