Zakho Cultural Festival in Zakho
The Shal u Shepik, or Kurdish Men's Traditional Dress Festival, held its third edition in Zakho, in Iraq's Kurdistan Region, drawing participants from across Kurdistan, other Iraqi provinces, and delegations from Turkey, Iran, and Syria. Staged near the historic Delal Bridge, Zakho's landmark, the festival features live showcases of traditional Kurdish clothing, fabric exhibitions, cultural seminars on the historical and social significance of Kurdish dress, and folkloric performances by more than 30 troupes.
Near the Delal Bridge, the historic landmark that has long defined Zakho's identity in Iraq's Kurdistan Region, the Shal u Shepik festival gathers each year to celebrate a specific and deeply symbolic thread of Kurdish culture: traditional men's dress.
