Dublin Pride in Dublin
Dublin's late-June Pride festival, tracing its history through a 1974 demonstration, a 1979 Pride Week, and a first official 1983 march of roughly two hundred marchers, now a roughly ten-day citywide event culminating in a parade from O'Connell Street across Liberty Hall to a Pride Village at Merrion Square.
A first Gay Pride demonstration took place in Dublin in 1974 organized by the Sexual Liberation Movement at Trinity College, followed by a first Gay Pride Week in 1979 under the National Gay and Lesbian Federation, before an official Pride march finally happened in 1983 with roughly two hundred marchers, a layered history spanning nearly a decade before the parade format familiar today took shape.
