The story

Ein Kerem Festival in Ein Kerem

Ein Kerem's resident artists open their stone-house studios and courtyards to the public each year around Sukkot, in a free festival that grew out of neighbors simply inviting each other inside. Visitors walk the village's narrow lanes between open studios showing painting, ceramics, and jewelry, alongside performing artists and the village's own historic churches and gardens.

Ein Kerem's stone houses, most now occupied by working artists and sculptors, throw open their doors during the annual Ein Kerem Festival, held around the Sukkot holiday in early autumn.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The festival's origin as neighbors opening their own homes to each other, rather than a top-down cultural production, still shapes its format: visitors enter working artists' actual studios and shared restored courtyards rather than a temporary exhibition hall, meaning the art on display is seen in the same stone rooms and gardens where it was made

02

The mystery stays covered

Several artists, including jewelry-maker Zadok Yehuda, designer Osnat Porat, and folklore artist Hadar Kleidman, work together in a single restored ancient courtyard, so one stop on the walking route can reveal three distinct crafts practiced side by side rather than in separate stalls
