Jerusalem March in Jerusalem
The Jerusalem Flag March, held annually on Jerusalem Day since 1968 and now backed by the Jerusalem Municipality, sends tens of thousands of religious-nationalist Israelis waving flags from the city centre through the Old City's Muslim Quarter to the Western Wall, a route that has drawn sustained international scrutiny for chants and clashes with Palestinian residents.
The Jerusalem Flag March, commonly referred to simply as the Jerusalem March, takes place each year on Jerusalem Day, the anniversary of Israel's capture and annexation of East Jerusalem during the 1967 Six Day War, and traces its origins to 1968, when followers of ultranationalist Rabbi Zvi Yehuda Kook first marched to the Western Wall in celebration.
