Calata Della Stella (Descent of the Star) in Atrani
On Christmas Eve, the small Amalfi Coast village of Atrani stages Calata della Stella, sending an illuminated aluminum star down a steel cable from Mount Aureo to the terrace of the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maddalena. The descent, lit by flares and timed to begin at 11:59pm, is accompanied by church bells, music, and fireworks over the sea, closing with dancing in the piazza.
It gives visitors a defined, time-bounded reason to experience religious & spiritual in Atrani, Province of Salerno, Italy.
