Ravenna Festival in Ravenna

Founded in 1990 by Cristina Mazzavillani Muti, Ravenna Festival stages opera, symphonic and world music inside the city's Byzantine monuments, including the mosaic-covered Basilica di San Vitale, alongside newer venues like the Rocca Brancaleone. Since 1997 its Le vie dell'Amicizia project has sent orchestras each year to perform single concerts in war-affected cities from Sarajevo to Beirut and Damascus.

Ravenna Festival was founded in 1990 by Cristina Mazzavillani Muti, a former singer who organized the event at her home city's invitation and built its early programming around performances by her husband, conductor Riccardo Muti, alongside opera, symphonic and world music brought into Ravenna's own historic and often unconventional spaces.
