Festa del Redentore Venice in Venice

Festa del Redentore commemorates Venice's delivery from a plague that killed close to a third of the city between 1575 and 1577, marked each year on the third Sunday of July with a votive bridge of boats to the Basilica del Redentore on Giudecca and a major fireworks display over the Bacino di San Marco the night before.

Plague reached Venice in 1575 and did not release the city for two years, killing close to a third of its population by the time it ended in 1577.
