Kingston Biennial in Kingston
Kingston Biennial is the National Gallery of Jamaica's flagship contemporary art exhibition, renamed from the Jamaica Biennial after that show's final 2017 edition and relaunched with a guest-curated, thematic format in 2022. Its Caribbean-wide artist roster and single curatorial theme, most recently Green X Gold in 2024, set it apart from Jamaica's more open, market-style art events.
The exhibition now known as the Kingston Biennial traces a lineage back to the All Jamaica Art Exhibition of 1938, later folded into the National Gallery of Jamaica's Annual National Exhibition after the gallery opened in Kingston in 1974, and then reorganized as the Jamaica Biennial in 2002.
