Shuri Castle Festival in Naha

The Shuri Castle Festival, held each autumn in Naha, reenacts the ceremonial life of the Ryukyu Kingdom, which ruled Okinawa from Shuri Castle for roughly 450 years until 1879. Its highlight is a scroll-like procession of about 700 participants dressed as the Ryukyuan king, queen, and Chinese envoys, alongside performances of Kumiodori and other traditional Ryukyuan arts.
