Hakaya Storytelling Festival in Amman

Hakaya is a Jordanian storytelling festival and network run by Al Balad Theatre and the Arab Education Forum, bringing hakawatis and oral historians from Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt together for performances, workshops and film screenings staged mainly in downtown Amman across several evenings each edition.

Al Balad Theatre and the Arab Education Forum built Hakaya as a storytelling network before it grew into a festival, training tellers in Amman, Irbid, Mafraq, Shobak and Petra alongside the annual public gathering itself.
