Madaba Mosaic Festival in Madaba

Launched in 2014, the Madaba Mosaic Festival celebrates the Byzantine and Umayyad mosaic tradition that made the city internationally famous, home to the 6th-century Map of Madaba. What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

What distinguishes this festival is its live demonstration format, connecting Madaba's ancient mosaics, preserved for over a thousand years in local churches and archaeological sites, directly to a still-practiced craft tradition rather than treating mosaics purely as historical artifacts

02

The mystery stays covered

Madaba's UNESCO Creative City designation reinforces this framing, positioning the festival as a genuine craft heritage showcase rather than simply tourist entertainment

03

The city starts moving

Contemporary Jordanian artists exhibiting work inspired by the same ancient designs found throughout the city give visitors a rare chance to see a millennia-old visual tradition actively evolving rather than frozen in museum display
