Shyrdak Festival in Naryn

Held in the Naryn region village of At-Bashy, the International Shyrdak Festival judges felt-carpet makers on how faithfully they preserve original geometric patterns, a UNESCO-recognized craft placed on the urgent-safeguarding heritage list in 2012. Master classes, youth craftsman competitions, and exhibitions of felt goods and traditional food round out the event.

At-Bashy, a village roughly 35 kilometers southwest of Naryn on the highway toward the Torugart Pass into China, hosts the International Shyrdak Festival, a competition and exhibition built around the UNESCO-recognized art of Kyrgyz felt carpet-making.
