Alai Shyrdamaly Festival in Bishkek/Alay

Organized with FAO support and Kyrgyzstan's parliamentary Council for Sustainable Development, the Alai Shyrdamaly Festival brought felt-carpet artisans from Osh region's Alay district to Bishkek's National Historical Museum to demonstrate shyrdak-making as an environmentally sound, climate-resilient craft. Master classes and sustainability lectures ran side by side, giving the event a more institutional, seminar-like character than most Kyrgyz craft festivals.
