Boun Ork Phansa Luang Prabang in Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang's Boun Ok Phansa centers on Lai Heua Fai, the Festival of the Boats of Light, in which villages build large illuminated naga-shaped floats and parade them to Wat Xieng Thong before setting them into the Mekong. Individuals also float small candlelit banana-trunk boats to release the past year's misfortune. The event draws large crowds to the UNESCO-listed old town.
Luang Prabang marks the end of Buddhist Lent with Lai Heua Fai, the Festival of the Boats of Light, widely considered one of the most visually striking events on the entire Lao festival calendar.
