Prabang Buddha Procession in Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang's Pi Mai centers on the procession of the Prabang, the small gold, silver, and bronze Buddha statue that gave the city its name, carried by palanquin from the Royal Palace to Wat Mai temple. There it remains for three days while thousands perform song nam phra, pouring water over the statue to wash away misfortune and seek blessings for the year ahead.
At the heart of Luang Prabang's Lao New Year lies the procession of the Prabang, the small but revered Buddha statue from which the city itself takes its name.
