Baltic Sea Docs in Riga
Baltic Sea Docs is an international documentary co-financing and pitching forum held in Riga, gathering roughly 150 film professionals for pitching sessions, workshops, masterclasses and screenings focused on projects from the Baltic Sea region, Eastern Europe and the Caucasus. Established in Denmark in 1997 and organized by Latvia's National Film Centre since 2006, it marks its 30th anniversary edition September 6-11, 2026, as the only pitching forum in the Baltics dedicated exclusively to documentaries.
Documentary filmmakers face a financing problem that fiction filmmakers rarely do to the same degree: fewer dedicated markets, fewer pitching forums built specifically around their genre, and a persistent sense of being an afterthought at festivals designed primarily around feature films.
