Homo Novus in Riga
Homo Novus is Riga's international festival of contemporary performing arts, presenting boundary-pushing theatre and performance works by Latvian and international artists. Typically staged in autumn, it has become an important fixture of the Baltic contemporary-performance scene, giving audiences access to experimental and formally adventurous productions that push beyond conventional theatre staging into performance art, site-specific work and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Contemporary performance, as distinct from conventional theatre, tends to resist easy categorization: it might involve movement without dialogue, visual installation without a stage, or audience participation that erases the line between performer and spectator altogether.
