White Night Riga in Riga
Baltā Nakts, or White Night, is Riga's overnight contemporary art festival held each September, when galleries, museums and unusual public and private spaces across the city open free of charge for a single extended night of installations, performances and exhibitions. Part of the broader European white night tradition seen in cities like Paris and Brussels, it turns an ordinary September night into a citywide, self-guided tour of contemporary Latvian and international art.
Cities across Europe have, in different ways, adopted the idea of a white night: one evening a year when museums and galleries stay open past their usual hours, and access to art becomes suddenly, deliberately unrestricted.
