The story

St Charbel Feast Annaya in Annaya

The Feast of Saint Charbel draws hundreds of pilgrims to the Monastery of Saint Maroun in Annaya each July, on July 24 in the Latin Rite and the third Sunday of July in the Maronite Rite. Visitors fill the roads to the mountain village from sunrise, with many spending the previous night in vigil prayer inside the monastery before the saint's tomb, alongside the newer Darb Mar Charbel pilgrimage trail.

Each July, the historic Monastery of Saint Maroun in Annaya becomes the focal point of Lebanon's Maronite Christian calendar, as hundreds of pilgrims, both Lebanese residents and members of the global Lebanese diaspora, converge on the mountain village for the Feast of Saint Charbel Makhlouf, the hermit monk canonized in 1977 whose tomb draws visitors seeking healing and blessings year-round.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

What distinguishes the Annaya pilgrimage from other Lebanese religious feasts is its combination of formal liturgy with an overnight vigil tradition rarely offered at other Maronite shrines, allowing pilgrims to spend hours in quiet prayer directly before Charbel's tomb rather than only attending a daytime service

02

The mystery stays covered

The saint's reputation for miraculous healing draws visitors well beyond Lebanon's Maronite community, including pilgrims from other Christian denominations and curious travelers interested in one of the region's most active living cults of a modern saint
