Assumption of Mary Lebanon in Nationwide
Lebanese Christians mark the Assumption of Mary, known as Eid al-Saydeh, on August 15 with pilgrimages to the Our Lady of Lebanon shrine at Harissa above Jounieh, where candlelit crowds walk up at night for vigils and processions. Village churches nationwide hold eve-of-feast Masses, dabkeh dancing, and shared hrisseh meals, while the national public holiday adds concerts and markets in many towns.
On the night of August 14 and through August 15, Lebanese Christians nationwide mark the Assumption of Mary, known locally as Eid al-Saydeh, one of the most widely observed feasts in a country where Christian and Muslim calendars often run side by side.
