Eid al-Adha, known locally as Tabaski, is a Liberian public holiday commemorating Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son, coinciding with the Hajj pilgrimage's culmination. Families who can afford it sacrifice livestock such as sheep or goats, sharing the meat with relatives and the poor, following communal morning prayers and preceded by a surge in livestock market activity.
Liberian Muslims mark the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to a divine command each year with Eid al-Adha, known locally and across much of West Africa by its regional name Tabaski, a public holiday coinciding with the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
