Kaunas International Film Festival in Kaunas
Founded in 2007 partly to save Lithuania's oldest cinema from demolition, the Kaunas International Film Festival screens art-house and independent films each October across Kaunas and Vilnius. Its four recurring strands, Wide Angle, Identity, Music Moves the World, and All the Muses, structure an internationally curated programme.
The Kaunas International Film Festival grew out of a specific act of cultural preservation: founded in 2007 by the organization Visos muzos, it was created partly to stop developers from converting Romuva, Lithuania's oldest operating cinema, into a casino, and partly to help unify and elevate the country's film culture more broadly.
