Esch Carnival Cavalcade in Esch-sur-Alzette
The Esch Carnival Cavalcade is the Sunday parade that caps carnival weekend in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg's second city. Roughly 67 groups, from football clubs and Zumba troupes to established carnival circles, march with costumed floats, confetti, and marching bands along rue Victor Hugo, rue du Canal, rue du Brill, and rue de l'Alzette to City Hall Square. The 2025 edition marked its 25th anniversary and drew spectators from Belgium, France, and Germany.
Carnival season in Luxembourg follows the same rhythm as in much of the Rhineland and Wallonia: a period of costumed excess before Lent, when ordinary rules loosen and towns turn their main streets over to parades.
