Kleeschen Parade Luxembourg City in Luxembourg City
The Kleeschen Parade brings Saint Nicholas to Luxembourg City on the Sunday before December 6, starting at the Central Railway Station and processing up into the Upper Town past the Christmas markets. Kleeschen appears as a bearded, elderly bishop figure in red robes with a mitre and crosier, escorted by the Houseker, a darker companion who reprimands misbehaving children. Children follow the procession collecting thrown sweets.
In much of Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and parts of Germany, Saint Nicholas rather than Santa Claus is the figure who visits children in early December, and Luxembourg City marks his arrival with a public parade on the Sunday before December 6.
