Octave and Maertchen in Luxembourg City

The Octave is Luxembourg's principal religious pilgrimage, held since the seventeenth century in honor of the Virgin Mary at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg City. Spread across the third to fifth Sundays after Easter, it draws roughly 90,000 pilgrims over a two-week span. Alongside it runs the Mäertchen, a market at Place Guillaume II that began as simple food stalls for pilgrims and has since grown into a full carnival-style fair with rides and games.
