Procession of Our Lady of Fatima in St. Dominic's Church to Penha Chapel
The Procession of Our Lady of Fatima is one of Macao's principal Catholic observances, held every 13 May since 1929, when a statue of the Virgin Mary is carried from St Dominic's Church through Senado Square and Praia Grande to Penha Chapel, where a mass is celebrated. The procession commemorates the 1917 Marian apparitions at Fatima, Portugal, and draws clergy, faithful and visitors along its historic route.
Every 13 May since 1929, Macao's Catholic community has marked the Procession of Our Lady of Fatima, one of the city's longest continuously observed religious traditions and among its clearest annual expressions of Portuguese colonial heritage.
