Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Valletta in Valletta
Held every 16 July, the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Valletta is one of Malta's most prominent Marian celebrations, centred on the Carmelite Basilica whose dome dominates the capital's skyline. Streets around the church are decorated for four days, brass bands march, and the evening closes with fireworks over the Grand Harbour after a procession carrying the statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Valletta is a city built for spectacle: bastions rising from the Grand Harbour, streets laid out in a strict grid by the Knights of St John, and at its heart the dome of the Carmelite Basilica, one of the most recognisable silhouettes in Malta.
