Malta Biennale in Valletta/heritage sites

The Malta Biennale places contemporary art directly inside the island's historic heritage sites, with its second edition, titled CLEAN CLEAR CUT, running from March to May 2026 under Spanish curator Rosa Martinez. More than 130 artists from over 40 countries present work across 27 to 29 national and thematic pavilions housed within 11 Heritage Malta sites including Fort St Elmo, the Grandmaster's Palace, MUZA and the National Museum of Archaeology.

Fort St Elmo has watched over the entrance to Valletta's Grand Harbour since the sixteenth century, built by the Knights of St John to withstand the Ottoman siege of 1565 and later serving successive garrisons through British colonial rule and the Second World War.
