Science in the City Malta in Valletta
Science in the City is Malta's national science and arts festival, held in Valletta as part of the continent-wide European Researchers' Night, which runs simultaneously in more than 400 cities across Europe. Launched in 2012, attendance has grown from around 12,000 to roughly 30,000 by 2023, engaging children, youths and the wider public with STEM through hands-on activities set across the capital's streets and historic buildings.
European Researchers' Night began as a European Union initiative to bring the often-hidden work of scientists directly to the public, choosing a single coordinated night each year when hundreds of cities across the continent simultaneously open their doors to hands-on science engagement.
