Bikini Day Celebrations in Majuro

Remembrance Day, also called Nuclear Victims and Survivors Day, is a Marshall Islands national holiday observed every March 1 marking the anniversary of the 1954 Castle Bravo test at Bikini Atoll, the most powerful weapon ever detonated by the United States. In Majuro, home to many relocated former Bikini residents, the day is marked by prayer, candlelight vigils and solidarity marches honoring victims of the 67 U.S. nuclear tests conducted in the Marshall Islands between 1946 and 1958.

Remembrance Day, observed every March 1, marks the anniversary of Castle Bravo, a thermonuclear weapons test the United States detonated at Bikini Atoll in 1954 as part of a testing program that ran from 1946 to 1958 and eventually comprised 67 individual nuclear detonations across the Marshall Islands.
