Les Nuits du Med'h in Nouakchott
Les Nuits du Med'h, also rendered Leyali el-Medh or Nuits du Medeh, is a Nouakchott festival dedicated to medh ennebewi, sung and recited praise poetry for the Prophet Muhammad. Organized by the Centre Teranim for popular arts as part of its wider project to safeguard intangible folklore, the festival has run for well over a decade, with its 13th edition staged at Stade Cheikha Ould Boidiya.
In a country where Islam sits at the center of both private devotion and public cultural life, Les Nuits du Med'h has carved out a distinct annual place by focusing entirely on medh ennebewi, the sung and recited tradition of praising the Prophet Muhammad.
