Chinese Spring Festival Port Louis in Port Louis/Chinatown
Mauritius marks Chinese Spring Festival, the Lunar New Year, with a public holiday and a parade through Port Louis's Chinatown, a roughly 500-metre stretch of Rue Royale. Dragon and lion dancers lead the procession under the Chinatown arch, accompanied by fireworks, in an event jointly organised by the Chinese Embassy, the China Cultural Center and the United Chinese Association.
Along a roughly 500-metre stretch of Rue Royale in Port Louis, a historic arch marks the entrance to Mauritius's Chinatown, a quarter shaped by generations of Chinese migration to the island.
