Fiesta Grande de Chiapa de Corzo in Chiapa de Corzo

The Fiesta Grande de Chiapa de Corzo, also called the Fiesta de Enero, is one of the oldest and most important traditional celebrations in Chiapas, held each year from January 8 to 23. The whole population of the town takes part, centered on the Parachicos, masked dancers whose tradition was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2009.

Every January, the town of Chiapa de Corzo, set in the Grijalva River valley some fifteen kilometers from the Chiapas state capital of Tuxtla Gutierrez, becomes the stage for one of the oldest and most deeply rooted traditional festivals in southern Mexico.
