Merida Fest in Merida
Merida Fest marks the Yucatan capital's founding anniversary each January with roughly two weeks of free concerts, dance, theater and literary programming across the historic center. The 2026 edition celebrated the city's 484th year, opening with a traditional alborada and callejoneada where troubadours sing mananitas to Merida at dawn, and closing with headline concerts on the Plaza Grande featuring both Mexican and international performers.
Every January 6, before most of Merida has had coffee, a procession of musicians and residents walks through the historic center singing to the city as if it were a person they loved.
