Oaxaca Calendas in Oaxaca City
Calendas are traditional Oaxacan street processions featuring brass bands, dancers, and towering papier-mache puppets called marmotas or monos de calenda, historically used to open weddings, saints' day celebrations, and the Guelaguetza festival itself. As a recurring civic and cultural tradition throughout the year, calendas are among Oaxaca City's most visible and frequent public celebrations.
