Holy Week in Taxco, Semana Santa en Taxco, is one of Mexico's most solemn and visually striking observances, held each spring in the colonial silver-mining city of Taxco de Alarcon, Guerrero. Processions of hooded penitents move through the city's steep cobblestone streets, some carrying heavy bundles of thorny huizache cactus bound to their backs as acts of penance, alongside traditional processions depicting the Passion of Christ.

Taxco de Alarcon, a small colonial city built into the mountains of northern Guerrero state, is known internationally for two very different things: centuries of silver mining and silverwork craftsmanship, and one of the most visually and emotionally intense observances of Holy Week anywhere in Mexico.
