Candelaria Tlacotalpan in Tlacotalpan

The Fiesta de la Candelaria in Tlacotalpan, Veracruz, blends religious devotion to the Virgin of Candelaria with an explosion of son jarocho music across a UNESCO-listed riverside town. Running from late January into early February, the more than 200 year old celebration centers on a river procession, jarana-fueled fandangos in the plaza, and encounters between bulls and running crowds through the colorful colonnaded streets.
