The story

Moldova Pride Festival in Chisinau

Moldova Pride is Chisinau's annual march for LGBTQI rights, reaching its 25th edition in 2026 under the slogan Love creates, the law protects. Past editions have drawn from several hundred to more than 800 marchers, joined by diplomats from the UK, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United States, along with representatives of the UN and the Council of Europe, making it one of the region's most closely watched public demonstrations of the year.

Moldova Pride began as a small, closely guarded gathering and grew, edition by edition, into a fixture of Chisinau's civic calendar.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

What sets Moldova Pride apart is its endurance: a quarter-century of marches in a country where public opinion on LGBTQI rights remains divided and counter-protests have occurred in past years

02

The mystery stays covered

The event doubles as an advocacy platform, pairing the march with a running social campaign pushing for legal recognition of same-sex partnerships and transgender rights

03

The city starts moving

International backing gives it added weight, with diplomatic missions from several European countries, the United States, the UN and the Council of Europe attending or issuing statements of support

04

The water draws everyone in

That combination of grassroots persistence and high-level diplomatic visibility is unusual for a march of its size in the wider region
